About Us

Who We Are

The Tioga County Advocacy, Support, And Prevention (ASAP) Coalition was created to deal with important issues like alcohol-related deaths and the opioid epidemic. We are a group that works together throughout the county and receives support from the Drug Free Communities (DFC) grant; this has helped us bring much needed resources to Tioga County and the coalition.

People from diverse backgrounds join us and help us strengthen the power of our community. Community volunteers have been vital in driving our mission forward, which is to prevent youth substance use and enhance the community’s ability to effectively address risk and protective factors across the county.

Every year, the coalition organizes awareness events and activities. These events aim to remember and honor those we have lost to overdose, encourage conversations about prevention, increase access to treatment options, and raise awareness in order to reduce stigma surrounding substance use.

What We Do

We Strengthen Community Networks

One of the main goals of the Coalition is to help youth, families, schools, and communities to work together in reducing Substance Misuse and mental health issues. We do this by connecting people to resources, encouraging youth leadership, and providing up to date information on a variety of current trends, issues, and topics.

We Educate

The soul of the Coalition is in education. We increase public awareness of the harmful effects of substance misuse, help parents recognize signs and symptoms, and teach adults how to talk to their children or teens about substance misuse, and empower youth with the skills and knowledge when facing these topics. It is our goal to spread awareness and reduce stigma in the communities we serve, and we believe that education plays a vital role in that.

We Believe In Data

The foundation of our work is in data collection. We collect data to inform the direction of the coalition’s efforts and to provide an accurate picture of local conditions as they relate to substance misuse and risk/protective factors. We rely on all of our community partners to assist in making sure we have the most up to date and current data.

We Advocate

We advocate for increased access to prevention programs, treatment resources, and mental health services. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to lead a healthy and fulfilling life, free from the harms of substance misuse. We raise our voices to address the root causes of substance misuse and work towards creating a supportive and compassionate environment for those affected.
