Coalition Workgroups & Committees
Cannabis (also known as marijuana, pot, weed and more) is now legal in New York State for adults 21 and older, though legal adult-use sales are yet to start.
The cannabis and smoke free workgroup is dedicated to promoting responsible cannabis use by actively advocating for the inclusion of cannabis-related language in smoke-free policies across various domains, including housing, festivals, and beyond. Our primary objective is to ensure that these policies effectively address the unique considerations associated with cannabis consumption.
In our commitment to fostering informed decision-making, we place great emphasis on educating both youth and parents about the realities surrounding underage cannabis use. Through engaging and evidence-based initiatives, we provide accurate information, dispel myths, and empower individuals with the knowledge they need to make responsible choices.
Furthermore, our workgroup collaborates with local schools, community organizations, and healthcare providers to develop comprehensive educational programs that holistically address the social, emotional, and health-related aspects of cannabis use. By targeting youth and parents, we strive to equip them with the tools to navigate the complexities of cannabis in a manner that prioritizes well-being and informed decision-making.
Through our diligent efforts, we aim to create a community that embraces responsible cannabis practices, fosters open dialogue, and safeguards the well-being of individuals of all ages. By working together, we can cultivate an environment where cannabis policies are inclusive, youth are well-informed, and families are empowered to make informed choices regarding cannabis use.
